    The Queen's Gambit

The Queen’s Gambit recently came out as one of Netflix’s original series, and it’s already been a fan favorite. It isn’t based on a true story, but the striking costumes, colors, and themes make it feel very believable. The main character is an orphaned girl in the 1960s who inherits her chess genius from her disturbed mathematician mother. She plays chess with skill and intensity that isn’t allowed her in any other aspects of her life. She dreams of becoming the world’s greatest chess player while struggling with drug addiction from the drugs that had been given to her by the orphanage she grew up in. You’ll get caught up in the compelling story, acting, and drama.

    The Office

Always a binge-worthy favorite, The Office provides 9 seasons of funny, lighthearted humor and ridiculous coworker interactions that are perfect for taking your mind off family drama and stress during your winter break. You’ll watch the boss, Michael Scott, occasionally do his job while desperately trying to make everyone in the office like him with inappropriate humor and distractions. But the beauty of the show is you can’t help but like Michael, he believes he’s a good guy while unintentionally creating an uncomfortable and awkward working environment.

      Schitt’s Creek

Schitt’s Creek started in 2015, but ratings started to soar in 2017 when viewers were finally able to stream the show and catch up on a rich family who’s fallen on hard times, who had to move to a little town called Schitt’s Creek. They also happen to own the town, but purely as a joke. It’s outrageously funny and harbors cultural significance in the easy acceptance of an LGBTQ+ couple in a small town. It hilariously depicts a rich family fallen from grace intermingling with the unsophisticated small towners, while not putting them down, but building them up.

        Emily In Paris
